Our response to the president’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord

Today’s announcement by President Trump that the United States government will withdraw from the Paris climate accord is short-sighted on nearly every front. It sets us up for increased human suffering, damage to infrastructure and to the economy from more severe storms and rising sea levels, and an unprecedented, accelerated loss of wildlife habitat and species around the globe.

This decision demonstrates an unwillingness to work together with other nations on solving one of the most important and complex challenges and threats facing our world today. It is a stark reminder to us all that we must redouble our efforts working in our communities and with our partners on behalf of smart, sustainable public policies.

Every day, Maine Audubon works to help the people of Maine become more informed and effective stewards of wildlife and habitat. Through that work, we meet countless citizens who are thinking creatively and taking concrete steps to mitigate the effects of climate change. As long as this is happening in Maine and around the country, we will continue to make progress on this critical issue.
