
Our Staff Naturalist and other staff oversee a robust array of seasonal walks, talks, and trips designed for the diverse interests and schedules of adults.
Programs range from introductory lectures and discussions to immersive field workshops focused on enhancing specific skills or finding target species.

Guided walks: Gilsland Farm hosts weekly bird walks on Thursday mornings year-round, Scarborough Marsh offers weekly bird walks on Wednesday mornings during the summer, and Fields Pond offers nature walks on Friday mornings. Additionally, Maine Audubon staff, partners, and volunteers lead native plant walks, edible plant walks, and a variety of other topical themes.
Classes: Our popular Birding Basics workshop series introduces birders of all abilities to the best and latest resources and tools. Other talks offer tune-ups ahead of our trips, citizen science training, and stewardship workshops.
Trips: Our renowned boat trips include annual favorites such as trips to visit famed nesting seabird colonies on Matinicus Rock, Eastern Egg Rock, and Stratton Island. Our Bald Eagles of Merrymeeting Bay trip showcases the incredible rebound of this majestic species. Our Fall Pelagic trip has become a destination trip for serious birders seeking species endemic to the open ocean. We also lead van trips and other wildlife-focused adventures statewide.
Speakers: Our monthly Speaker Series takes place at Gilsland Farm. Maine Audubon’s Speaker Series is sponsored by Maine Magazine, and events frequently feature beverages from Allagash Brewing and Chickadee Wines. Past speakers include Bernd Heinrich, Lucas St. Clair, Amanda Beal, Doug Tallamy, David Shaw, Heather McCargo, John Bunker, and many others.
Presentations: Maine Audubon staff and volunteers can come to your organization, company, or function and deliver informative presentations on a variety of topics. The State of Maine Birds, Birding Basics, Planting Native Plants, Winter Wildlife Survival and other topics, delivered to your door!
Conservation Workshops: Our Conservation team offers workshops year-round on assorted topics such as Stream Smart Road Crossings, Forestry for Maine Birds, The Brook Trout Survey, Maine Turtle Roadkill Survey, and more! To inquire, email conserve@maineaudubon.org.
