Stream Explorers Educator Workshop

Location: Buker Community Center, Augusta

When: May 3, 2024, 9 am-3 pm

Price: Free

Maine Audubon, the Department of Environmental Protection, and partners have teamed up to recruit educators who can help their students survey large aquatic insects (macroinvertebrates) to evaluate stream health.

We’re offering an IN PERSON training at the Buker Community Center in Augusta, with an afternoon field trip to a nearby stream. The training session will focus on how to help your community group or students find and identify “Least Wanted and Most Wanted” aquatic insects that are indicators of stream health. We will go over materials developed specifically for educators and students by DEP and partner organizations and provide logistical information on how the program works. Data collected through this program is submitted to DEP and acts as a screening tool; the data is tremendously valuable for prioritizing where to focus DEP’s more in-depth surveys.

Please note you are registering for an IN PERSON training in Augusta. Unable to make it in person? Don’t worry, you can still get involved! Recording of our online training is available on our Stream Explorers web page.

Maine Audubon will provide contact hours certificates to all attendees.
