Foraging for Pigments Workshop at Fields Pond
Create your own paint from foraged pigments
Learn about the history of pigments from artist Nathan Allard, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway Visiting Artist for 2024, while making your own pigment from natural material found in Maine.
The workshop will include foraging for raw material and learning how to process it into pigment with the use of a mortar and pestle and a glass muller and plate. After making your own pigments, learn to temper the pigment with egg yolk for traditional Renaissance egg tempera painting.
Material list: pencils, good quality watercolor paper, watercolor brushes, and small containers for bringing home pigments.
