Maine Audubon Membership FAQ

What are the benefits of membership?

Maine Audubon membership benefits include:

  • A subscription to Habitat, Maine Audubon’s quarterly magazine
  • 20 percent off Maine Audubon programs, including camps, speakers, and trips
  • Free admission to select Maine Audubon signature events
  • A 10 percent discount at our Nature Stores
  • Our monthly news and events email newsletter
  • Automatic membership and program invitations from your local Maine Audubon chapter

Will I get a membership card?

Yes. Whether you are signing up to become a member of Maine Audubon for the first time or you are renewing your membership, you are mailed a new or updated membership card and a thank you letter for tax purposes within two to four weeks of any membership gift.

At what age does a senior level membership start?

The senior level membership starts at age 65 and is for one named adult.

Is there an option to spread my membership payment out over the course of the year?

Yes! Our Frequent Flyer recurring giving program enables you to contribute a set amount each month. As a Frequent Flyer you will enjoy all Maine Audubon membership benefits, plus the added benefit of not receiving paper or email membership renewal notices. Your benefit level is determined by the cumulative total of your monthly gifts over the course of the year. Take a look at the chart above to see the full benefits list.

Read more about our Frequent Flyer program.

Can I be a member of a chapter without being a Maine Audubon member?

As a Maine Audubon member, you are automatically eligible to join one of our seven chapters in Maine. You must be a member of Maine Audubon to be a member of one of our chapters. To learn more about our chapters, please visit the Chapters webpage.

How can I find out when my membership expires?

Your membership expiration date is printed on your membership card in Month/Day/Year format. You can also reach us at member@maineaudubon.org or call 207-781-2330 x230 to verify details of your membership.

I want to give a gift, but I don’t want to become a member.

Thank you for supporting Maine’s wildlife! We are happy to honor your request. Please email member@maineaudubon.org, call 207-781-2330 x230 or include a note with your donation to let us know your giving preferences.

Will a restricted gift (a gift to a specific fund or project) or a tribute gift (a gift in honor or in memory of someone) count towards my membership?

Restricted, tribute, honorary, or memorial gifts do not count towards Maine Audubon membership.

Why am I receiving renewal notices before my membership has expired?

We send renewal notices starting the month before your membership expires so that you have plenty of time to renew before your benefits lapse.

If I give a gift membership, will the recipient receive the benefits of membership?

Yes! All new and renewing members (including recipients of gift memberships) have access to Maine Audubon membership benefits.

If I am a member of Maine Audubon, am I also a member of the National Audubon Society?

No. Maine Audubon is not a National Audubon chapter; we have an independent, collaborative relationship and share conservation goals.

I qualify for the “Breakfast and Birds” benefit with my $250+ membership. When can I take advantage of this benefit and how many people can I bring with me?

The member-exclusive “Breakfast and Birds” event happens twice per year in the summer months. Eligible members will be contacted in advance of these events with an invitation that includes all the details. If you have additional questions, please contact member@maineaudubon.org or call 207-781-2330 x230.

I would rather not renew my membership online. Can you send me a paper form?

Absolutely! You can request a paper renewal form by emailing member@maineaudubon.org or by calling 207-781-2330 x230.

Is it possible to auto-renew my membership each year?

If you would like to auto-renew your membership, please consider enrolling in our Frequent Flyer recurring giving program, which enables you to contribute a set amount each month. As a Frequent Flyers you will enjoy all of the Maine Audubon membership benefits, plus the added benefit of not receiving paper or email membership renewal notices!
