Winter Bird Walk

Beginners Bird Walk

This walk was originally scheduled for January 8 but has been rescheduled to take place on January 29, 9-11 am.

Along with our weekly bird walk at Gilsland Farm, we’re happy to offer a free monthly bird walk in the Greater Portland area that will be beginner-focused. If you’re new to birding or have never been on a bird walk before, this is a great opportunity to get introduced to the hobby and learn some of the more common species around us. We’ll have extra binoculars to loan out and can give some lessons on how best to use them.

This program is for true beginner birders.  If you have been on any Maine Audubon bird walks in the past, we ask that you join us on the weekly Thursday morning walks at Gilsland Farm (8-10 am) and allow new birders this chance to participate.

In January we’ll go birding at Portland’s Eastern Promenade. This is a great spot to see overwintering songbirds along the hillside, or a variety of beautiful ducks in the ocean. Meet at the East End Boat Launch (map)

These walks are free (donations appreciated!) but please sign-up here so we can contact you if anything changes due to weather, COVID, or other safety concerns.

There will be another Beginners Bird Walk in the greater Portland area on February 12. Register here.
