New Names for Maine Birds
The American Ornithological Association (AOS) recently announced a process to change the common names of all American bird names currently named after people, including Maine species like the Bicknell’s Thrush and the Lincoln’s Sparrow.
The announcement is an opportunity for us to consider these species anew: what should their new names be? What makes a good name? Join Maine Audubon’s Staff Naturalist Doug Hitchcox and Advocacy and Outreach Manager Nick Lund as they talk about new names they might consider or suggest for familiar Maine species.
