Ted Koffman, Maine Audubon’s Executive Director, announced his retirement last week. He will stay on with the organization until late spring 2014.
Ted started his work with Maine Audubon in early 2009. During his tenure as Executive Director, Ted guided the organization during the challenging recession years and worked closely with development staff to gain new members and donors and develop relationships with businesses and foundations.
Working with conservation department staff, Ted spearheaded new conservation initiatives, such as the Brook Trout Pond Survey, aquatic connectivity projects, ‘Stream-Smart‘ professional training and a wind power study (forthcoming) that could enhance rightly sited project criteria to protect wildlife and habitat.
During Ted’s time, our advocacy work has yielded protections for sand dunes and reduced the threat of lead poisoning to loons from lead fishing gear (among other achievements), while defending against efforts to weaken long-standing and effective environmental laws.
Ted worked closely with staff to hire a new Education Director who is starting to expand and put together compelling programming for youth and adults. Ted also continues to work with the communications team on long term communications and marketing plans to ensure that Maine Audubon continues to reach new audiences.
