Lead tackle buyback at Kittery Trading Post’s Septemberfest

Bring your lead fishing tackle to the Kittery Trading Post’s Septemberfest Event on the weekend of September 12 and 13, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and receive a $10 voucher toward the purchase of lead-free tackle in the store! Kittery Trading Post is partnering with Maine Audubon and the Department of Fish and Wildlife for this event to help get the lead out of Maine’s lakes and ponds as part of the Maine Lead Tackle Buyback Program.

New this year, the buyback program provides a way for anglers to try out lead-free tackle from participating retailers and receive ten dollars off their purchase. In addition to the Septemberfest Event, vouchers are also provided year-round at the following participating stores in exchange for at least one ounce of lead tackle: Indian Hill Trading Post in Greenville, Dag’s Bait Shop in Auburn, and Backwoods Bait & Tackle in Chesterville.

Additional retailers may be added, so check out fishleadfree.org/me for the current list of participating stores and additional information on the benefits of fishing lead free.

Maine state law bans the use and sale of lead tackle 2 1/2″ or less or 1 oz. or less, so why not clear out your banned lead tackle and come to the festival or one of these retailers to exchange it for some free non-lead alternatives, and help protect Maine’s wildlife at the same time?

The Maine Lead Tackle Buyback Program is supported by the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund with additional funding provided by The Maine Sportsman and magazine publisher Will Lund.
