The Land for Maine’s Future (LMF) Board is accepting public comments and we’re asking for your help.Currently, the Land for Maine’s Future program is undergoing a Government Evaluation Assessment (GEA). As part of that assessment, emerging issues are being identified.
Some of these issues include updating information technology and making the website and information about LMF properties more accessible.
- holding voter-approved bonds hostage until the Legislature approves raiding the public lands trust account;
- preventing approximately 30 approved projects from moving forward;
- shutting down the LMF program by not allowing staff to expend funds to review previously approved projects nearing completion; and
- prohibiting staff from utilizing citizen donations to conduct legal review of previously approved projects.
What’s next?
The Governor held these same bonds hostage several years ago in order to persuade the Legislature to pay off the hospital debt. The Legislature agreed, yet now he’s holding these same bonds hostage again.
The Governor’s behavior is outrageous and contrary to the will of the voters. Surely, this must be identified as the emerging issue impacting the Land for Maine’s Future program.
