Have you ever considered being a teacher of the natural world? We recently asked several of our educators to tell us a little about themselves and what they enjoy about the programs at Maine Audubon.
Jeanie
When I’m not working at Maine Audubon, I substitute teach, volunteer at Portland Adult Education, and spend time outdoors. I love working at Audubon because I get to teach children and encourage their curiosity while in an outdoor classroom. The smiles and wonder on the children’s faces when they hear a bird, see an animal, and learn about the forest is exceptionally rewarding.
Tammy
My name is Tammy. I am a contract educator here at Gilsland Farm. My time is divided between substitute teaching 1st – 5th grade classes, teaching at Maine Audubon, and volunteering for Presumpscot Regional Land Trust (PRLT). I enjoy having fun with my dogs, traveling with my husband, hiking, and exploring new places, letterboxing, kayaking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. I am originally from Utah but have lived in several different states. Along with guiding classroom field trips, I have been a counselor/teacher during school vacation and summer day camps. I really enjoy being outdoors in any setting watching the kids learn to appreciate and nurture nature.
Thank you Jeanie and Tammy for sharing your thoughts. Learn more about becoming a Maine Audubon team member by contacting Karen Arno, Lead Educator, Gilsland Farm Camps.
