A recent change to federal tax policy could make it easier to support Maine Audubon this year.
Starting in the 2026 tax year, if you take the standard deduction, you can now also deduct up to $1,000 (single filers) or $2,000 (married couples filing jointly) for cash gifts to qualified operating charities, with inflation adjustments over time. Note that contributions to donor-advised funds (DAFs) are not eligible for this deduction. Maine Audubon qualifies as a recipient.
Financial support for Maine Audubon is critical to sustaining our work on behalf of the irreplaceable wildlife and habitat in Maine. Last year, more than 5,600 individuals and institutions made gifts to Maine Audubon, and 79% of them gave $100 or less.
A gift to Maine Audubon:
• Provides nature-based experiences to thousands of kids across Maine, from Lewiston to Portland to Dover-Foxcroft
• Supports advocacy for strong policies on behalf of wildlife and wildlife habitat
• Engages thousands of backyard volunteers in community science projects
• Transforms landscapes around the state into native plant habitat to support wildlife
• May also qualify for a tax deduction!

Thank you for supporting Maine Audubon during a very busy 2026.
