Join Wolastoqey (Maliseet) educator, author, poet, and artist Mihku Paul accompanied by Maine Audubon educators as we celebrate our Earth! Why are trees important? Traditional Indigenous Knowledge tells us that trees are our cousins. We’ll look to the trees for inspiration as we come together for a trail walk, storytelling, art, and hands-on exploration. This event is best suited for children ages 3–9 and their families, and will take place outdoors rain or shine. We will start in our covered Outdoor Classroom and then take a short ~15 minute walk with a mild incline. Register/tickets here >
Old Orchard Beach | Earth Day Beach Cleanup, 10 am–12 pm
Our Coastal Birds Crew will be at Old Orchard Beach as part of Maine Conservation Alliance’s Earth Day Beach Cleanup. MCA is partnering with Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation—one of New England’s leading marine debris and conservation organizations—to celebrate Earth Day with a beach cleanup at Old Orchard Beach. The morning will include a talk about plovers with a naturalist from the Maine Audubon. Come help clean a stretch of Old Orchard Beach and learn more about coastal Piping Plover habitat. In honor of Earth Day, Après Maine has created a special hard seltzer made with sumac, aronia, blueberry, and lemon, called Aves, to celebrate the work Maine Audubon does to educate and inform people about the value of native plants and biodiversity. The company will donate $1 from every 4-pack sold of the featured seltzer as well as a percent of every draft pour to Maine Audubon. Après Maine is a local craft beverage producer making craft seltzer and hard cider, with a tasting room at 148 Anderson Street in Portland.
