- LD 40: An Act to Protect Maine’s Great Ponds
(Sponsor: Senator Tom Saviello) - LD 568: An Act to Protect Maine’s Lakes
(Sponsor: Representative Ben Chipman) - LD 713: Resolve, to Further Protect Lake Quality (Sponsor: Representative Gary Hilliard)
These important bills will help protect the health of Maine’s 6,000 lakes, which generate more than $3.5 billion in economic activity and help sustain 52,000 jobs.
A recent report revealed that water quality in Maine’s lakes has been declining since 1995. It is critical to strengthen protections for our lakes today.
Healthy, functional lakes that support fish and native plants are essential to the success of Maine’s iconic Common Loon. They eat small fish and because they are visual predators, clean, clear water is essential to their ability to find, pursue and catch each meal. Keeping Maine’s lakes clean is vital to the long-term health of Maine’s Common Loon population.
Public Hearing
The Environmental and Natural Resources Committee will hold a public hearing on all bills on:
Wednesday, March 18, at 1:00 pm
Room 216, Cross State Office Building, Augusta
A strong turnout at this hearing will show the committee the critical importance of building a stronger safety net for Maine’s lakes.
If you cannot appear in person, then please contact ENR Committee members and urge their support for LDs 40, 568 and 713.
As someone who understands how valuable Maine lakes are to our economy, communities, and wildlife, you have a valuable role to play.
Thank you for being part of the solution.
