Lead tackle from Marden's

Help our Fish Lead Free Team

Come help Maine Audubon’s Fish Lead Free Project!

Please join us from 1-4pm on Thursday December 4 to help unpackage lead fishing tackle to get it ready for the recycling center. Gloves, masks and all other equipment will be provided. Please be advised that you will be working with lead and we will be taking safety precautions to make sure the risk is minimized. This past year Maine Audubon worked with stores around the state to buy back their inventory of now illegal painted lead jig heads. A new addition to the lead tackle law was passed that closed the painted jig loophole. In an effort to help stores recoup some of that lost investment, we bought back their lead tackle inventory. In doing so, this tackle will never even end up in an angler’s tackle box or on lake bottoms. Since all this tackle was ready for sale, we need your help to remove it from packaging; separate out lead, cardboard, and plastics; and sort it into containers so we can take it to be properly recycled. Please RSVP to Laura Williams at lwilliams@maineaudubon.org
