Introduction to Surveying Loon Breeding Pairs

You may have heard of or participated in the annual loon count, but this webinar focuses on a different way to monitor loons. In this online gathering, we’ll introduce you to methods that community scientists all over Maine are using to responsibly track loon breeding pairs and their chicks throughout the breeding season and submit important observations about loon nesting success and chick survival. You’ll learn how you can join hundreds of volunteer community scientists who are helping us learn more about the status and threats to loon families across Maine’s vast landscape dotted with more than 6,000 lakes and ponds and thousands of loons. Join us to hear more about loons and this exciting program. No survey experience required, although it helps to have a love of loons, enthusiasm to learn, access to a lake, and perhaps a handy pair of binoculars.

This program will be recorded and available to registrants.
