Maine Audubon Bumble Bee Blitz at Gilsland Farm

Learn how to capture, cold stun, and identify bumble bees to contribute to community science in Maine!

Join Maine Audubon staff and volunteers at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth to conduct surveys of bumble bees, the only social native bees in North America. You’ll receive training on identifying the common (and some uncommon) species of bumble bee in Maine and the plants that they’re using. We will also be leading people in capturing bumble bees with butterfly nets and cooling them down so they enter a state of decreased activity for easy identification and photography.
