The Geological History of Borestone Mountain – Borestone Naturalist Series
Experience Borestone Mountain in a way most hikers never do as we trace the evidence of the last glacial maximum and supercontinent Pangea! Cemil Akula and Lauren Madsen, UMaine PhD candidates, will be your guides on this journey of historical geologic events. This program will begin and end at the Visitor Center.

Encompassing almost 1,600 acres in Maine’s Hundred Mile Wilderness region, Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary offers a spectacular array of natural features, including rare older forest, three crystalline ponds, exposed granite crags, and sweeping, panoramic views. Hiking trails lead to the summit and other viewpoints, and a seasonal Visitor Center includes displays and a small Nature Store. The entrance gate is just off Bodfish Valley Road, Elliotsville, and the Visitor Center is a 1.3-mile walk up the access road.
