CoastWise Introductory Workshop in Wells
Join us for an Introductory Workshop on the new CoastWise Approach to tidal crossings. CoastWise is a training program and resource for anyone with responsibility for planning and building road crossings in tidal wetland areas. Modeled after the statewide Stream Smart program for non-tidal crossings, CoastWise supports coastal Maine communities in building safe road crossings that accommodate the tides, sea level rise, and increasingly powerful storm surge, while fostering a healthy ecosystem.
In this introductory workshop we will share why healthy tidal systems are important, the broad principles underlying the CoastWise Approach to replacing tidal crossings in Maine, as well as some of the technical information needed to assess the existing crossing and to design a safe, cost-effective, ecologically-supportive, climate-resilient tidal road crossing in Maine. The workshop will be in the classroom with an optional field trip in the afternoon. If you plan to join the optional field trip, please bring your own lunch.
Schedule: 9 am-12 pm with optional field trip that will run until 3 pm.
Location: Wells Reserve
Coffee and refreshments will be served, but please bring your own lunch if you will be joining us for the field trip.
