Our Chapters

Maine Audubon is a statewide community of people who care about Maine wildlife.

Our Chapters—each covering a unique part of the state—are key pillars of that community, and play a central role in carrying out Maine Audubon’s mission.

Each Chapter is led by a dedicated group of volunteers, and each provides creative, engaging events and programs for Maine Audubon members and the public. If you live in a Chapter’s region, when you become a member of Maine Audubon, you automatically become a member of your local Chapter and receive all the benefits and access to local programming that comes with it.

  • Downeast:
    Home of Acadia National Park! The Downeast Chapter leads dozens of popular programs and trips each year, maintains over 230 birdhouses along the Bluebird Trail, and is actively involved in local environmental education.

  • Merrymeeting:
    The Hamilton and Josephine Newman Audubon Sanctuaries are often the venue for this Chapter’s many bird walks and field trips. The Merrymeeting Chapter also provides scholarships to local youth and educators to attend nature-based camps and training.

  • Mid-Coast:
    Over 70 years old, the Mid-Coast Chapter leads frequent field trips, hosts an annual lobster bake on Hog Island, partners with Camden Public Library for programming, and publishes a triennial newsletter, the Merganser.

  • Penobscot Valley:
    Established in 1970, this Chapter stretches from Bucksport to Millinocket! It offers popular field trips, and played a pivotal role in saving the Mendall and Penjajawoc Marshes from development.
  •  
  • Fundy:
    Covering all of Washington County, this Chapter has offered hikes and boat trips, and occasional speakers.
  •  
  • Western Maine:
    Since 1970, the Western Maine Chapter has led guided nature walks and offered a variety of rich programming to members and the public. Their newsletter, The Pileated Press, comes out twice a year.
  •  
  • York County:
    This Chapter hosts many programs and workshops, most often at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm. It offers weekly bird walks, publishes the Harlequin newsletter, and sponsors the Maine Young Birders Club.
