Welcome to the All Persons Trail at Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm Audubon Center.
Here are some details about the trail which we hope will help you enjoy your visit.
The main trail is just under half a mile long with an additional 318-foot-long spur trail.
The trail has a wheelchair-accessible hard packed stone dust surface and a wooden boardwalk. The packed stone dust sections of the trail are five feet wide. The wooden boardwalk is six feet wide.
The average slope of the trail is four percent. At its steepest, there is a slope of eight percent for about fifteen feet. The average cross slope is two percent.
Inside the Visitor Center, there are restrooms, a water fountain, and free public WiFi.
TRAIL DIRECTIONS:
The All Persons Trail begins and ends at the Visitor Center parking lot.
From the parking lot, take the packed stone dust trail about 100 feet. Bear left to enter the Visitor Center, and bear right to reach the trailhead.
From the trailhead, the five-foot-wide trail continues forward. The edge of the orchard is on the left, and vegetation is on the right. There is a gradual slope decline with an average of four percent. In 300 feet, there is a semi-circular bumpout rest stop with a bench.
Here, the trail takes a 45-degree or V-shaped turn, and continues on a gradual two percent slope decline through a forested area.
In 288 feet, there is a junction. Turn left to travel along an elevated six-foot-wide wooden boardwalk for 250 feet.
At the end of the boardwalk, there is a semi-circular bumpout rest stop, with a bench, and the packed stone dust trail resumes. The trail then emerges into edge habitat and open meadow. There is a gradual slope incline with an average of four percent.
In 245 feet, you will reach a junction. If you take a sharp left turn, you will be on a spur trail with switchbacks that lead to a high point in an open meadow. This trail has a steeper incline, and for 15 feet has an eight percent slope. At the top, there is a rest stop and a bench.
To continue on the main trail, there is a gentle curve to the right. In a few hundred feet, the trail curves once again to the right and enters into a shaded mixed hardwood forested area. This will bring you back to the start of the boardwalk. From there, retrace your route to the trailhead.
The All Persons Trail was built to U.S. Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guidelines. This information reflects the condition of the trail when it was constructed in October 2026.
