“Bringing Nature Home:” The Native Plants Sale & Festival

The Native Plants Sale is just 10 days away! We’re busy getting more than 3000 plants ready for June 15th. We’ve been busy sourcing plants, keeping them watered and healthy, and watching germination of seeds we sowed last fall.

The schedule for the day includes workshops, activities, food trucks, and expert advice to help you chose the best plants for your yard.  The Speaker Schedule at the Native Plants Sale will include:

10:30 am – Shawn Jalbert of Native Haunts presents “Native Shrubs to Support Maine Pollinators”

11:30 am – Heather McCargo of Wild Seed Project presents “Top Maine Natives for Shade”

12:30 pm – Artist Michel Droge presents “Maine Native Plant Cyanotypes Project”

Before the sale, there are plenty of great events happening:

June is a fantastic month for seeing native plants around us, especially for our beautiful blooming shrubs.  Our native Viburnums, dogwoods, Aronia, and elderberry are all getting ready to bloom, and we can expect garden favorites like buttonbush and New Jersey Tea coming along soon.  Closer to the ground, trillium and lady slippers dot the forests around us, while genera like Echinacea, Coreopsis, and Rudbeckia will begin blooms at home this month that we may still be enjoying in August or even September.

We’re ready to share the first part of the list of plants available at the Native Plants Sale next Saturday. We will update this list as we get closer to the sale, so check back here for the latest list
