We apologize, this event has been cancelled. If you already registered you will receive a refund. Our writing journey at Fields Pond begins with meditative exercises to open our senses. We will explore the fields, forest, and shoreline for signs of animal life and the many ways our landscape is changing from winter to spring. Observation, writing, and drawing will be interspersed with group sharing and feedback. Ideas for continuing your journaling exercise onward through the changing seasons will be offered. This program is intended for families to discover and learn together. Leader: Registered Maine Guide P. Daniel Ryan
Spring is here and the birds will are singing! Being able to identify birds by their calls is a skill that will greatly improve your birding and help you quickly distinguish different species. This class will teach you techniques for remembering and identifying bird songs.
Just in time for their spring arrival, our Staff Naturalist, Doug Hitchcox, will hold a workshop to teach you various techniques for identifying the gems of our forest: warblers. We will look at the diversity of the family, keys for identifying each species, and even spend time learning the songs and auditory cues to take your birding to the next level.
With on annual trip to Matinicus Rock on Friday, we are holding a ‘seabirds primer’ at Gilsland Farm a few days before so you’ll be ready to identify everything that we see during the trip. This will be a great chance to brush up on the differences between Arctic and Common Terns, or learn how to pick Common Murres out of groups of Razorbills
