Ask Rep. Seavey to Protect Land for Maine's Future!

Dear Representative Seavey,

We the undersigned residents of Biddeford, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport urge you in the strongest possible terms to support legislation that will require the release of Land for Maine’s Future funding that was overwhelmingly approved by Maine people in 2010 and 2012.

The Land for Maine’s Future program has been one of Maine’s most successful, important, and popular land conservation programs, conserving hundreds of thousands of acres that are now permanently available to the public for hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, picnicking and birdwatching.

Throughout its 28-year history, LMF has supported high-paying jobs and strengthened local economies through the permanent protection of commercial forestland, 37 farms and more than 2 dozen working waterfronts throughout Maine.

Bond proposals for LMF funding receive overwhelming support by Maine voters every time they are on the ballot. For these reasons, we urge you to vote to sustain a strong LMF program, including by voting to: 1) ensure the release of voter-approved LMF funds that are being withheld, 2) reauthorize for an additional five years the funding authority for the 2010 LMF funds that expire in November 2015, and 3) enact measures that ensure the LMF Board is able to function in a transparent and effective way for the people of Maine. Thank you for representing us in Augusta.
