Stream Explorers Training

When: Thursday, April 27, 5:30PM-7:30PM
Where: Gilsland Farm, 20 Gilsland Farm Rd, Falmouth

Join the Stream Explorers program and become a community scientist surveying for large aquatic insects (macroinvertebrates) in streams in Maine! All you need to do is attend this in-person training OR watch two online training sessions on how to find and identify approximately 40 “Least and Most Wanted” aquatic insects that are indicators of stream health, and then visit one to three streams between May and October.

During your survey you will search for the Least and Most Wanted macroinvertebrates and send in the collected data. We will provide training, equipment, maps of the survey streams, and data forms and instructions. We recommend you conduct your surveys in pairs for safety reasons and ease of data collection.

Please note you are registering for an IN PERSON training at Gilsland Farm. Due to capacity, there are a limited number of spaces available. If you are unable to sign up, please email conserve@maineaudubon.org to be placed on the waitlist. Unable to make it in person? Don’t worry, you can still get involved! Recordings of our online trainings are available at https://maineaudubon.org/projects/stream-explorers/.
