Planting native plants in Baxter Pines

Habitat Restoration Workshop at Baxter Woods

Join staff from Maine Audubon, Portland Parks, and our partners for a hands-on workshop and habitat stewardship project in Baxter Woods.  We will learn from experts about the work the City and others are doing to restore habitat for wild birds, and then will set about planting native plants throughout several important forest habitats.  Bring your family, friends, work gloves, and favorite planting tools (we will have plenty of hand tools, too).  Dress for a morning of fieldwork outdoors. The morning will start with a brief introduction to Baxter Woods, its history, the habitat restoration area, what it encompasses for birds, and how we are collaborating on management plans, plantings, and other efforts. We’ll also give details on the planting including what plants, where they are going, and how to plant them properly, before digging in!

Please register in advance here.
