As we mark the end of the 2012 legislative session, here at Maine Audubon we are feeling both appreciative and uneasy. Most importantly, we are extremely grateful to everyone who participated in this session. Your engagement is critical to our efforts to protect and defend Maine’s wildlife and wildlife habitat.
We remain concerned about the overall direction that some lawmakers are taking in their approach to conservation. We all know that Maine’s natural resources are what set us apart–preserving and protecting them is a value shared by families and businesses across the state. Any threat to Maine’s natural legacy is a threat to the very heart of our economy and way of life.
A clean environment, healthy people and wildlife, vibrant communities, and a strong and growing economy all go hand-in-hand. We don’t have to choose one over the other.
