Maine Audubon Receives Grant from Bank of America
Maine Audubon among 40 nonprofits from across Maine to receive $5,000 grant from Bank of America Charitable Foundation
South Portland, ME—Maine Audubon was one of 40 nonprofit organizations from across Maine to receive a $5,000 grant from The Bank of America Charitable Foundation in a ceremony held on October 15 at the Portland Marriott at Stable Oaks. Attendees of the ceremony included Maine Governor John Baldacci, Bank of America Maine Market President Betsy Greenstein, and managers from Bank of America’s Maine banking centers.
Maine Audubon was selected by Bank of America to receive a $5,000 grant in support of its ongoing commitment to improve the quality and vitality of the community by conserving wildlife and connecting people with nature.
Bank of America Corporate Philanthropy Building on a long-standing tradition of investing in the communities it serves, Bank of America will embark in 2009 on a new, ten-year goal to donate $2 billion to nonprofit organizations engaged in improving the health and vitality of their neighborhoods. Funded by Bank of America, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation gave more than $200 million in 2007, making the bank the most generous financial institution in the world and the second largest donor of all U.S. corporations in cash contributions. Bank of America approaches giving through a national strategy called "neighborhood excellence" under which it works with local leaders to identify and meet the most pressing needs of individual communities. Through Team Bank of America, bank associate volunteers contributed more than 650,000 hours in 2007 to enhance the quality of life in their communities nationwide. Maine Audubon recently completed a major project to help develop a new middle school ecology curriculum for Maine. Maine Audubon is playing a leadership role in state and federal initiatives to get more kids outside, including the recent Take It Outside conference held in Augusta this October.
MAINE AUDUBON works to conserve Maine’s wildlife and wildlife habitat by engaging people of all ages in education, conservation and action. For more than 160 years, Maine Audubon has been connecting people with nature and leading science-based conservation in major projects across the state. An independent affiliate of Audubon’s national organization, Maine Audubon has seven local chapters, 11 nature centers and sanctuaries, and 11,000 members and supporters.
