Maine Audubon Needs Volunteers to Lead Nature Walks

FALMOUTH, Maine, September 17, 2008—Maine Audubon needs volunteers on weekdays from September to November to lead one-and-a-half-hour Nature Exploration Programs at Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary in Freeport, Fore River sanctuary in Portland, Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth, Hamilton Sanctuary in West Bath and Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center in Scarborough.

No previous nature knowledge or teaching experience is necessary to lead the explorations, just a love of nature and a desire to share it with others. Volunteers will learn teaching techniques, seasonal changes in plants and animals and general ecology. Most programs participants are school groups. Programs are usually held in the morning and early afternoon, Monday through Friday.

Training sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, September 24, at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth and Thursday and Friday, September 25 and 26, at Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary in Freeport. Special arrangements can be made if you cannot make the training. In-depth internships are also available.

For more information or to arrange training, contact program manager Linda Woodard at (207) 781-2330, ext. 213, or lwoodard@maineaudubon.org.
