Maine Audubon at Shaw's in Falmouth This Saturday to Kickoff Sale of Reusable Grocery Bags

Percentage of Sales to Benefit Wildlife Conservation

FALMOUTH, Maine, January 6, 2009— From 11 a.m.-2 p.m. this Saturday, January 10, an event at Shaw’s Supermarket on Route 1 in Falmouth will kickoff the sale of reusable polar bear bags to benefit Maine Audubon.

When customers of Shaw’s in Maine purchase the bags this winter, Shaw’s will donate a portion of the sales to Maine Audubon, Maine’s largest wildlife conservation organization.

The January 10 event includes free cookies and juice, nature-oriented activities for families and children, and hourly raffles of items from Maine Audubon’s Nature Store. Maine Audubon staff will also be on hand to answer questions about Maine Audubon’s wildlife conservation work and the benefits of membership.

Customers who join Maine Audubon by March 15, 2009, can also enter to win—for free—one of Maine Audubon’s popular wildlife-watching trips, led by expert naturalists. For more information, visit www.maineaudubon.org.

Throughout New England, with every $1.50 Polar Bear bag sold, Shaw’s will donate 10 cents to environmental organizations including: Seacoast Science Center in New Hampshire; Maine Audubon in Maine; New England Aquarium in Massachusetts; ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center in Vermont; Roger Williams Zoo in Rhode Island; and Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. The Polar Bear bags will be sold at all Shaw’s Supermarkets and Star Market locations January 3-February 28, 2009.

Shaw’s, Osco and Star Market are a division of SUPERVALU INC. Throughout the six New England states, there are more than 200 store locations employing approximately 28,000 associates.
