About Merrymeeting Audubon

 

Established about 1970 as a chapter of the National Audubon Society, Merrymeeting Audubon Society joined Maine Audubon when it affilliated with National Audubon in 2000. You will automatically become a member of the Merrymeeting Chapter when you join as a member of Maine Audubon and your address is within the designated membership area.

The chapter’s designated membership area is a rectangle running up the coast from Freeport to East Boothbay, inland to Hallowell, south-west to Lisbon Falls and back south to Freeport.

As a member of our Chapter, you will all the benefits of Maine Audubon membership, and you will receive our chapter newsletter, "The Call".

The objective of the chapter is to foster an appreciation of our natural environment, with a focus on birds. The chapter also sponsors school programs and scholarships.

Programs

We invite you to join us for our monthly natural history programs, field trips, and other events.

Field Trips: Some 20 field trips, almost all of which are focused on bird watching, are scheduled annually, with about 10 of these held in May. The field trips operate within a day‘s drive of Brunswick, many of them in coastal areas. more

Annual Meeting: At our banquet held in April, our president and comittee chairs update the membership on the past years activities, conduct chapter business and the membership enjoys a well known speaker. more

Speaker Meetings: Six illustrated talks are scheduled annually, from September through April, focusing on natural history and conservation issues.  The meetings are held in the Curtis Memorial Library, Brunswick, and are open and free to the public. more

Scholarship Programs: MMAS annually offers three residential ecology camp opportunities - Hog Island Camp, The Maine Conservation Schools at Bryant Pond Forest and Greenland Point, and Tanglewood 4-H Camp. more

Board Meetings:  Board Meetings are held in the evening and are open to the public.  For location and directions, please contact us.
