    Bring your young family to participate in one hour of playful activities designed to encourage self-discovery, a sense of place and a budding awareness of the natural world.

    Session 2:  Preparing for Winter

    Seven Week Winter Session (Wednesdays, October 29 to December 17, 2014) no class November 19

  • The Night Tree: A Solstice Celebration!

    Join us on the longest night of the year for a celebration of nature in winter. We will recreate Eve Bunting’s classic story, The Night Tree, by making our own “night tree” to share with our wild neighbors. We will have hot cider and indoor activities. All ages welcome.

    Join us for a one hour, drop-in exploration program! Children will have individual time with self-guided learning stations and group time to read a story, explore a mystery bag and learn about a mystery animal.  We will head outside to investigate some of the questions raised in class and everyone will go home with resources on how to further explore the different nature questions we’ve explored.

    Enjoy an afternoon exploration of animal scat and tracks that critters leave behind. Participants will learn to find and identify tracks, reading the stories they tell. 

    A limited supply of snowshoes are available. Please bring your own if you have them.

  • Winter Writing Workshop: What Would a Bear Write?

    Explore your inner bear through poetry and short-story writing exercises inspired by some favorite animal-loving authors. Writing and sharing will be interspersed with stretching of legs and the imagination as we walk along the forest edge and wonder about the winter landscape and the wildlife hidden from view.

    Come prepared for the weather – warm refreshments will be provided.
