Come and learn from an amazing team about the insightful and intriguing research on sturgeon.

Two species of sturgeon are native to the Atlantic coast of the U.S., the shortnose sturgeon and Atlantic sturgeon. In the Gulf of Maine, both species are the focus of a collaborative research program between the University of Maine, the Maine Department of Marine Resources, the University of New England, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

In 2005 a recreational angler in Bangor, Maine landed a sturgeon and provided the impetus for NOAA and the University of Maine to begin research on the Penobscot River.
