    This 1 1/2 hour program provides a special opportunity for participants to explore the salt marsh. During this unique paddle adventure participants become a part of the dynamic Dunstan River habitat, observing its inhabitants in their natural setting. We will see crabs, fish, feeding birds, edible plants and more!

Gliding through the marsh, you will be exposed to its many inhabitants, from the snowy egret catching fish along the edge of the river to the mummichugs swimming in the water. A trained naturalist will show you the numerous marsh plants and even give you a taste of an edible one. This tour is suitable for both novice and experienced paddlers.

    Get a close up look at birds in their habitat as you paddle along through the marsh at this quiet and peaceful time of the day.  Migration will be underway and the birds will be feeding on the banks trying to bulk-up for their long trip south.

    SunsetJoin us for a guided canoe tour at sunset and explore the marsh at this beautiful time of day. You will see the reflection of the setting sun on the calm waters of the Dunstan River, observe the herons and shorebirds flying back to their roosts and enjoy the sounds of the evening marsh. This time of day is known as the “golden hour” and as the sun sets on the marsh, you will be able to experience its beauties in a new light.

    Experience the sights and sounds of marsh creatures under the full moon. Watch for black-crowned night heron along the bank or snowy egret flying back to a nearby island for the evening. We may even see a harbor seal or a muskrat playing in the water.  Astronomer Bernie Reims will be joining us as a special guest for the evening pointing out the stars and planets.
