Usually found in the Midwest and West, Sandhill Cranes began breeding in central Maine in 2000.  We’ll travel in a 15 passenger van in search of these majestic birds, and will likely encounter many other species throughout the day.

Standing close to 4 feet tall, Sandhill Cranes are hard to miss.  The birds can live up to 20 years.  Mated pairs stay together throughout the year, migrating south as a group with their young.  This trip is a great opportunity to view these amazing animals.

This field trip will travel from Falmouth to New Gloucester, Poland, Belgrade, and eventually to Smithfield seeking an encounter with these majestic birds, but we are also likely to see many other species in this area.
