The Center is now closed for the season. We will reopen on Memorial Day weekend, May 28, 2016, June 4-5, and will open 7 days a week starting June 11. Group programs by reservation will start May 2. The grounds and river are OPEN for you to explore anytime.

    Become an Audubon Citizen Scientist! Join local experts for a survey of the marsh for the many different types of plants and insects, including butterflies and dragonflies. We will have a training session before we head out. Participants can choose plants or insects to survey.  After the surveys the two groups will reconvene and discuss their results.  The data collected will be compared to previous surveys and will serve as an indicator of the health of the marsh.

You can bring your own shells and sea glass or use ones we have collected. Participants will be guided through the process of how to create the base and add the shells to the wreath. Whether you are a Maine resident or just a visitor to our shores, you will be able to bring back the beauty of the salt marsh to display in your home for all to enjoy.

    Discover the many mammals of the marsh. The marsh is home to fox, muskrats, mink, river otter, deer, and many small rodents. This time of day is known as the “golden hour” and as the sun sets on the marsh, you will be able to experience its beauties in a new light.

    Join us at Scarborough Marsh for a marsh-wide survey of birds and help us document all present species. Timed to catch the beginning of shorebird migration, we divide the marsh among groups of monitors. Depending on the assignment, some surveys are on foot, by car or from a canoe (provided at the marsh or bring your own). Beginning birders welcome!.
