Ecology Beneath our Feet: No-Dig Gardening for Healthy Food & Ecosystems
Fall is the perfect time to prepare garden beds – or convert lawn to garden beds – via the no-dig method that also builds the health of the soil food web.
Lisa Fernandes is the organizer and founding member of Portland Maine Permaculture, Director of The Resilience Hub and a permaculture and green student design since 1992. She is a certified permaculture designer, team trainer and group facilitator and has owned a training & consulting business for several years. She studied political science at Boston College and environmental studies at The Evergreen State College while designing & implementing municipal waste reduction & recycling programs. Lisa is a gardener, Master Food Preserver, Master Composter and has studied medicinal plants for nearly twenty years. She has worked in the public, private and non-profit sectors and is now focused on creating sustainability and resilience-building programs for the local community and region. Recently, she was part of the Maine delegation to the Slow Food Terra Madre Conference in Italy and she also attended Transition Towns Training in the UK.
