In this 1 1/2 hour interactive exploration, students have the opportunity for hands-on learning about the adaptations of plants and animals unique to the salt marsh. Participants will have a chance to catch and release fish, look through algae to find small organisms feeding there, and test the unique characteristics of the marsh mud in comparison to the upland soil.
Program Features
Small group, age-appropriate discovery activities that introduce students to key ecological concepts with an emphasis on using all senses and observational skills to explore and experience nature.
- Flexibility to adapt program content to include special interests or specific Maine State Learning Results content standards.
- Opportunities to custom design a program with a more in-depth focus.
- We can expand the length or set up multiple visits, and incorporate scientific monitoring techniques.
- Teachers and leaders receive a packet including pre and post-trip activities and salt marsh ecology information.
