York County

An early EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL was heard from Fort Foster in Kittery on the morning of the 18th.

On the 16th, a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was recorded vocalizing in North Berwick. It can be heard from the side of Gov. Goodwin Road, across the street from Deerfeild Estates.

Residents to Kennebunk Plains have been returning, notable this week was a UPLAND SANDIPER on the 18th.

Greater Portland

On the 21st, a TRICOLORED HERON was found in the Scarborough Marsh, across from the Nature Center on Route 9. There was also a report of two possible WHITE-FACED IBIS in the marsh on the 22nd. Other new birds around the marsh this week include: PECTORAL SANDPIPER and MARSH WREN.

The hawkwatch at Bradbury Mountain continues to see good numbers of raptors moving through, highlighted this week by a big movement of 340 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS on the 16th.

Kennebec River Valley (Augusta-Waterville)

The resident SANDHILL CRANES of Messalonskee Lake were reported again this week, best viewed from the south end of the lake. Three PURPLE MARTINS have also returned to houses further north on Route 11.

Midcoast

A HARRIS’S SPARROW continues to come to feeders on Monhegan Island throughout this week.

The RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continued at Cushing Cemetery on the west side of N Pond Road in Warren this week.

Central Maine

At least three PURPLE MARTINS were spotted in Unity on the 16th visiting nest boxes at the Field of Dreams.

On the 19th, 17 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen flying over the Little City Park in Bangor.

The drake EURASIAN WIGEON at the Pittsfield Water Treatment Ponds was last reported on the 17th.

Northern Maine

An apparent MISSIPPI KITE was photographed in Frenchville on the afternoon of the 20th.
